Harbor Cove Beach (Mother's Beach): This beach has calm waters, sand dunes, and scenic views. The harbor breaks protect against large waves, making it great for kayaking, swimming, and standup paddle boarding. It features a safe “Swim Only Area” for young kids and has handicap access. Dogs are welcome.
Channel Island Harbor Beaches (Kiddie/Hobie Beaches): These beaches also have gentle waters, a swim-only section (Kiddie) and a watersports area (Hobie) with bathrooms and lifeguards. The break walls offer protection from big waves, perfect for kayaking, swimming, and kids' water games. Similar to Harbor Cove, there's a safe “Swim Only Area” and dogs are allowed.
Note that the CIH beaches may be closed from September to December for sealion season & breeding. While access is restricted during this time, it's fun to watch the sealions. These spots are primarily for viewing rather than swimming. Kayaks, foils, surfers, and paddle boarders must launch and then paddle out directly from the swim-only beaches. Hobie beach is better place to launch. Co-Exist!
Other beaches in Ventura County: Mandalay State Beach, Oxnard State Beach and Park, Hollywood Beach (Hollywood Beach by CIH entrance is closed for wildlife rehabilitation) (State Beaches are DOG FRIENDLY, city beach are not)
